Perhaps it is that people can't believe that the Barge would rate an angel? There is...a lot more of Christianity in the subconscious of the average Barge occupant than there is love of other gods, and since faith and the struggle for it is such an issue there, having one's faith confirmed can naturally be rather mindblowing.
