Saint Andrej Malcontent? Well, put plainly, he's the Saint of the Perverts and undesirables of Combine.

[Ferinc isn't strictly combine and no malcontent should put anything plainly at so little provocation-- but he knows very well that as an outworlder his lapses can be tolerated a bit.]

A strange saint to follow, if I can say without offending.

Why strange, when the other Saints won't have us, and the Malcontent offers open arms? His first servants were deemed to be great sinners against the Holy Mother and still he loved them and saved them from death by fire.

Their crime was loving one another and happening both to be male in the process. But the Saint has a heart large enough for worse sinners. [He dips his head in respect.]

[He considers this for a while. observe, the thoughtful face.]

I apologize. I did not know your crime were so insignificant, in the scope of things. You shouldn't be punished for loving another based on their gender.

[Ferinc lowers his eyes.] My crimes are greater than those of the first servants of the malcontent, all those generations ago. But the Saint is the Saint who would have me. [And an outworlder at that.] And in exchange for my service and my life he gave me peace.

Not so strange then that we follow him?

Stildyne doesn't understand. He was never much a religious man, when we were in basic together.

No, he has no faith. He can't understand what it means to believe something. But he's still a good man. And that's valuable.

I had plans. Stupid, arrogant, flawed plans. Plans that I should have realized, upon all my allies turning against me, were wrong. But I couldn't see that. He betrayed me and my plan. I had to make sure he couldn't continue to do so.

[A nod.] One hopes that it was not a plan too damaging. Although peace comes as we mend our wrongs.

It was more damaging than I could have imagined.
